Perham Schools

The Perham-Dent Public School District provides education services for students from Pre-K through high school. The district offers academic programs and co-curricular activities as well, including athletics and fine arts. Prairie Wind Middle School’s student body is made up of 5th-grade through 8th-grade students and enlists a grade-level, team-teaching approach. The elementary school teaches students from Pre-K through 4th grade and offers smaller class sizes and a strong academic culture.

A new high school is currently under construction with an opening date planned for the fall of 2018. The same bond that provided the funds for the new high school also allowed for renovations to the middle school, and a new gym addition and classroom wing for the elementary school.

As a community surrounded by 1,048 lakes, Perham offers a long list of recreational activities to choose from. Locals and vacationers alike enjoy turtle races, swimming, boating, and fishing in the summer, and ice fishing and 140 miles of snowboarding trails in the winter.

Maplewood State Park provides visitors with 9,500 acres of beautiful forests, sandy beaches, picnic areas, and eight major lakes for fishing or swimming.

The warmer months generally begin in mid-May, and extend through mid-September, with an average daily high of 67 degrees. The cold season in the Perham region begins in late November and continues through early March. The average daily high in the cooler months is 30 degrees. The first snow usually occurs in late October, with additional snowfall occurring through the end of April, and an average yearly snowfall of around 49 inches.
