With just under 900 residents, Battle Lake is a small but vibrant community located along the western shores of West Battle Lake in central Minnesota. Battle Lake Public School District is home to the Battle Lake Battlers and the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs. Battle Lake Elementary provides academics to students from Pre-K through 6th grade, and Battle Lake Secondary school offers academics and co-curricular activities for those students in grades 7 through 12.
Some of the secondary school’s athletic programs include students from the Henning and Underwood schools. Approximately 93 percent of students graduate from high school. A low-cost, after-school daily enrichment program is available to students in kindergarten through 6th grade from 3:15 to 6 p.m.

Recreation and Parks in Battle Lake
A beautiful wilderness area, Glendalough State Park, is located just 3 miles from the city of Battle Lake. A few years ago, the Glendalough Trail was opened, providing an 11-mile asphalt-paved, looped trail for exploration of the Battle Lake area. The trail allows easy access for bikes, inline skating, wheelchairs, and walking.
Northwest of Battle Lake is a historical site called Phelps Mill Park, a scenic area that once housed a flour mill in the 1890s. Each summer, there is a popular arts and crafts fair held there in July. The Prospect House and Civil War Museum is located on Highway 78 and houses the memorabilia of “Cap” Colehour, a civil war veteran and entrepreneur.
